Content!
The days of adding keywords all over your page to rank well are as relevant as NSYNC.. The biggest thing any website designer beginner or professional can do is write good quality content that readers WANT to read and share. If it is the same stuff curated 1,000 different ways no one will want to read it including the all powerful crawling robots of Google. Write well and write often! If you cannot write content without rambling hire a professional! Your website is an investment the cost of 1 month of a billboard and its 80% of the time your business’ first impression do not waste it.
Keywords
Placing Keywords in specific areas are still important! Including Title, Header, Body, Footer, using your Image Title and Alts are also great places for keyword information. If you are a local business we at JSH Web Designs recommend is adding your location City and State to your title, body, and footer.
Tell Google What to Do
Robots.txt / Schema / Google Webmaster Tools / XML Sitemaps.
User Sitemaps
User Sitemaps is considered a plus from a Google stand point, in our opinion most of your website visitors won’t care but if the people at big G give you brownie points for it, you might as well add it.
Pagespeed
Page speed while it’s not one of the biggest factors in SEO it is one that can easily be improved on. By using optimized media, gzip, and caches to help improve your speed can increase your page rank. We still haven’t came to a conclusion about Content Delivery Networks for small to medium businesses as far as from an SEO stand point however we do believe it does help the user experience and saves hosting disk space.
Backlinks
The all important back links. You want quality and relevant back links from creditable sources so our advise is steer clear of DIY Fiverr backlink building. Sometimes you have to pay to play, joining chamber of commerces and business directories in your town if you are a small business can go a long way in your page rank.
Exact Domain
This is highly debated and everyone says that exact match domains or (EMD)’s are on the way out but in our personal opinion while it is not a must by any means it does still have a little help. Exact Match Domain is when your domain name has the search words in it. Example Knoxville Dentists in Google and owning KnoxvilleDentists.com
.COM importance
.COM websites have higher page ranks than any other domain extension including .net and .gov
Speciality Domain Names
Per our research speciality domains or “premium domain names” while can help in the EMD aspect it does not outweigh the pros of ranking with a .com. This might change in the future however from our projections that will not be this year. Example Knoxville.Realtor does not rank anywhere close to KnoxvilleRealtor.com
